What is the history behind Standard Process?
Standard Process was founded in 1929 by Royal Lee, DDS. The company is a leader in the manufacture of nutritional whole food supplements and has a successful track record of supporting health care professionals. After strong demand from veterinary practitioners for its nutritional whole food supplements, Standard Process created Standard Process Veterinary Formulas exclusively for dogs and cats and sold through veterinarians. The formulas contain unique combinations of whole foods (whole plants, animal tissue extracts, botanicals) that contain essential vitamins, phytonutrients, and minerals. These supplements help replace the nutrients lost in processed foods. Learn More

What do Standard Process Veterinary Formulas do?
Organs, glands, and tissues compromised by disease, surgery, and injury require increased amounts of high-quality nutrients for regeneration, healing, and return to function. Veterinary Formulas “feed” the patient. Supplementation can be directed to specific organ systems, or to the body as a whole. Nutritional support can dramatically enhance the healing response, as proven in countless stories of success.

What makes Veterinary Formulas better than other supplements?
Veterinary Formulas are whole food supplements. And our production process—involving unique methods of farming, manufacturing, quality control, and R&D—preserves the highest level of nutrient integrity. This process results in highly bioavailable nutrients with exceptional potency and efficacy, helping dogs and cats lead healthier lives.

Has research been conducted?
Yes, and it continues. Request a reprint of our pilot study of 84 clinical patients. Read articles supporting a nutritional approach to patient management.
As of January 1, 2007, research projects using Standard Process products are in progress at three U.S. veterinary schools:
- University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine animal project is evaluating a potential new product for osteoarthritis in dogs. The product is a mixture of glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate, and a number of anti-inflammatory nutrients. Twenty dogs are being enrolled in a placebo-controlled, double-blind study.
- University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, Dermatology Department, is evaluating Canine Dermal Support™, Canine Enteric Support™, and Canine Immune System Support™ for potential use in chronic, allergic skin disease.
- University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine is compiling preliminary data that evaluates digestive enzyme therapy for parasite control in small ruminants.

How many different Veterinary Formulas are available?
There are 16 Veterinary Formulas, ten for canines and six for felines.
(top)
What is the difference between the canine and feline formulas?
Canine formulas are more complex in the variety of ingredients, from both plant and animal sources. They reflect the omnivorous feeding behavior of canines. However, our canine formulas can be given to cats.
Feline formulas have a simpler combination of ingredients, with more emphasis on animal tissues, a reflection of this obligate carnivore. Cats can consume the canine formulas safely, with effective results.
